Program Overview
Our Driver's Education program includes:
- Minnesota state-approved classroom instruction
- Certified Driver Education instructor
- Behind-the-wheel driving lessons
- Defensive driving techniques
- Traffic laws and safety education
- Preparation for the Minnesota permit examination
Who Can Enroll?
Students who:
- Meet the Minnesota age requirements
- Attend Southland School District or qualify under district enrollment guidelines
- Complete all required registration forms
- Submit payment before the registration deadline
Summer Driver's Education
Summer Driver's Education provides students with the flexibility to complete classroom instruction during summer break.
Classroom Instruction
Students will participate in engaging classroom sessions covering:
- Rules of the road
- Defensive driving
- Distracted driving awareness
- Impaired driving prevention
- Vehicle operation
- Minnesota traffic laws
Behind-the-Wheel Training
After completing classroom requirements, students will schedule behind-the-wheel lessons with a certified instructor.
Training includes:
- Residential driving
- Highway driving
- Rural roads
- Parking
- Intersections
- Night driving (when applicable)
- Hazard recognition
