The Southland FFA recently attended the National FFA convention in Indianapolis. Over 62,000 members attended this event with 8 Southland FFA members and Advisor Kevin Brown. Chris Quale and Tyler Kiefer were honored when they received their American Degree at the convention. Members stopped at the Fair Oaks dairy South of Chicago on their way down to the convention. The fair oaks dairy has 6 farms with more than 13000 cows between all facilities. The students were able tour their operations and watch their 70 cow rotary parlor in action milking cows. Students attended numerous leadership sessions and workshops at the convention while also attending the enormous career fair that is 3 city blocks long. Students also toured the Indianapolis speedway and were able the ride around the track and get out and kiss the bricks at the finish line . One of the highlights of the trip was being able to watch Valery Early the National Secretary speak and run sessions. Valery is originally from Spring Valley and was part of Southland’s region. At the convention students also attended a Rascal Flats concert and a rodeo on Friday evening. All in all it was a great trip and a experience of a lifetime for the Southland FFA members.
