Gary W. Stroup Memorial Scholarship-- $1000 awarded to two eligible applicants per year.  Must be a high school senior graduating from Southland High School of School District 500 in Adams, MN with a minimum GPA of 2.75 and who plans to attend a four year U.S. college or university or a two year U.S. college or trade school.  Apply online:

RCTC Foundation Scholarships Available -- scholarship portal is now open and will close on Friday, February 15. You must be admitted to RCTC in order to apply. There is more information at This is the only time the portal will be open for the upcoming school year so you must apply before it closes. Students should only create one account in the portal and use their RCTC email address.(Students receive an RCTC email address shortly after they apply to attend RCTC.)

RCTC is  holding four Sloppy Joes and Scholarships sessions for students who have questions about applying for scholarships or need help with their application. Students must register in advance and the sessions are scheduled for January 16 and 23 from 12:30-1:30 pm and from 4:30-5:30 pm. The sessions will be held in the Learning Center at RCTC. Students should either call the Foundation office at 507-281-7771 or send an email to to register, indicating the day and time they plan to attend.

Mayo Clinic Heath System Health Care Scholarship Application--$1000 scholarship to 10 individuals in the Austin service area.  You can obtain an application from Ann Walter. Application form, references and essay are due March 21, 2019.  Eligibility criteria includes:  

  • High school seniors who will be graduating in the Austin service area
  • Accepted at an accredited college or technical school
  • GPA of at least 3.2
  • Registered for at least 6 credits.

Mayo Clinic Health System Auxiliary Scholarship-- The application form, 2 letters of recommendation and and a written personal statement about your future goals and ambitions are due March 21, 2019.  Applications are available from Ann Walter. 

Farmers Mutual Insurance Company-- must be a son or daughter of Farmers Mutual Insurance Company policyholder.  Applications and criteria information can be obtained from Ann Walter.  Application due April 1, 2019.

Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) Scholarships-- must be attending NICC.  $1000 Opportunity Scholarship and $1500 Loyalty Scholarship available. For more information and the application please visit their website at  There priority deadline for applications is April 1, 2019.

Minnesota Association of Townships Scholarship Program--this scholarship is for juniors planning to further their education at a college, university,or vocational school.  Applications and detailed information are available on their website at or from Ann Walter.  The application, written essay, recommendation letter and a high school transcript is due on May 1, 2019.

Alpha Kappa Psi Scholarship--for high school seniors who have been admitted to Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.  The application requirements are available online at  Applications must be submitted by February 18, 2019.  

Vallely Will Scholarship --a national scholarship opportunity for students who have demonstrated excellence in academic accomplishment and character.  Requirements include: demonstrate financial need, have a minimum GPA of 2.0, plan to attend full-time in an accredited 2-year or 4-year college, vocational or technical school.  Application is due February 1, 2019.  The scholarship amount varies from year to year depending on the number of applicants, but is usually around $2000-$4000. Courtesy Corporation McDonald's Scholarships
McScholars -- Applicants must be currently employed by Courtesy Corporation -McDonald's to be eligible. McDonald's will match up to $10,000 in tuition costs. For more information contact: Human Resources Department, 608-781-8080

Southland Area Scholarships
The 2019 Southland Area Scholarship Booklet will be available to all graduating Southland High School Seniors in March, 2019. Local businesses and families providing these scholarships in the past will be contacted in February, 2019 and opportunities will then be updated.
Students need to submit a completed, typed & printed application to Ann Walter in April, 2019 (date to be announced).
