The Southland FFA chapter held its annual banquet on May 10th in the lunch room in Adams. There were approximately 60 guests that attended the meal and awards program. The chapter served a pork loin meal prior to the program at 7:00 PM. President Tyler Jax started the meeting with opening ceremonies and Vice President Jenna Bentzin recognized local FFA supporters with appreciation certificates. R and S grain systems, Bissen Farms, Mower County Farmers Mutual Insurance and Chad Felten were appreciation certificates. Next Elizabeth Thome and Auna Koenigs received region FFA participation awards. Mr. Brown the Advisor acknowledged all the FFA teams and individuals who competed in the chapter over the past year. Discovery, Green hand and chapter degree certificates were awarded and the star green hand went to Kylie Stafford. Outstanding sophomore was awarded to Elizabeth Thome, Outstanding junior was awarded to Autumn Brown.
The Senior Leadership award was awarded to Jenna Bentzin for her efforts over the past 4 years. A power point slides show of the chapters activities of the year was created and shown by the reporter Kylie Stafford. The record keeping award went to Maddie Smith for her efforts in keeping accurate records on her placement proficiency area. Lynn Meany spoke to the meeting room crowd and awarded the Mark Meany scholarship to Tyler Jax. Owen Smith received the Agricultural Mechanics chapter award and Maddie Smith received the Dairy production placement award.
Tyler Jax and Auna Koenigs were recognized for having state winning proficiencies and Tyler Jax received his chapter acknowledgment of receiving the sate degree at the state convention held at the end of April. Chris and Heidi Jax received the honorary chapter degree for their efforts supporting the chapter over the years.
The top awards of the night went to Tyler jax- named the star chapter Farmer and Auna Star in Agribusiness. The new officers were installed Elizabeth Thome – President, Brant Bissen Vice President, Karter Jax – Treasurer, Secretary- Hattie Wiste, Reporter- Kiayanna Meyer and Reporter- Brody Canterbury.
