I grew up in small town Zumbrota, MN and later attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, graduating with bachelor’s degrees in both Math Education and German. After receiving VDAC and Fulbright scholarships, I spent two years living in Kassel, Germany. While there, I took math education courses and worked in a German high school as an English teaching assistant. I incorporate best-practice teaching methods learned both in the US and Germany to fit the needs of all my students.
Last April, my husband Isaac and I welcomed our daughter Maria into the world. We are really enjoying our new roles as parents and watching her grow and change each and every day!
This is my 6th year teaching Intermediate Algebra and AP Calculus at Southland and my second year teaching Pre-Calculus. I will continue to be the advisor for the Southland chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, a national math honor society, in which students act as peer tutors during homeroom throughout the year.

I am a firm believer that all students can do math! Research has shown that students who believe that one’s ability to learn mathematics is the result of their genes (fixed mindset) display less persistence on complicated tasks compared with other students who understand effort to be more important (growth mindset). Simply believing that you can improve your intelligence through effort and hard work is the key to your success! I am more than willing to assist any student seeking extra practice. I am usually at school from 7:30-3:30. Sometimes just 5 minutes of one-on-one help can make all the difference!
